The Day Nienda Loses Her Sight
By Ima Kusmayanti (2005)

Always be grateful for what the almighty has given us. Cherish every moment we spend day to day. Always remember, you can rely at all times on your family, but most importantly on the Almighty.
“I’m going to lose my sight.” Nienda said looking down and feeling devastated. “What do you mean, Da? Come on, be serious!” her sister, Dini approached her and sat beside her on the bed.
“You Know, I’ve been complaining about my eyes for the past three weeks. It happened suddenly, and everything became blurry. It became clear for a couple minutes at first, then, it blurred again.” Nienda Looked up and faced her sister.” I can’t even see your face, now.” She screamed trying to focus to see her sister’s face.
“Calm down. Have you seen a doctor?” Dini touched her sister’s cheek softly. “Maybe, you need a pair of glasses.”
“I went to see an oculist today with my friend, Nia. I tried all lenses, concave, convex, cylinder, from the thinnest to the thickest, but nothing worked. Even the computer couldn’t detect anything wrong with my eyes. It stated that my eyes were perfectly normal, but it is wrong, they’re not normal.” Nienda said with frustration. She stood up and tried to walk towards the window.” The doctor said a unique and unidentified type of virus attacked the nerve system in my eyes.”

Will Nienda lose her sight for good?
