A Simple Story
By Ima Kusmayanti (2004)

“One said that marriages are made in heaven. That is the most sacred and beautiful relationship between two human beings. In a marriage, love is a wonderful feeling to share between a man and a woman. It is true that everyone is made in couples decided by the Almighty. However, it so happens that you love someone, but you get married to someone else, because when you think of one person, you ever realize the other is waiting for you.” Herdi closed his favorite book entitled The Power of Love. “So, what do you think?” He turned to his right and waited for a reply from his skeptic friend, Lia.
“Aren’t you being too romantic? So, your wish for this week is what? Getting married?” Lia said in incredulity shaking her head. She knew Herdi for almost five years. It was his habit to come up with new wishes almost every week, but most of his wishes didn’t come true.
“I’m serious, Lia. Look at me! I’m almost twenty four, I have a steady job and I’m still single stuck with you and the rest of the gang, Adrian, Zaki, Aning, Rosie and Sri,” He sounded desperate hoping to have changes in his life. “Do you see anything wrong with me?”
“Zaki, talk some senses into him, will you?” Lia ignored his last remark and turned to her other friend who was reading the newspaper across the room.
“OK! So, you want to have a wife. Why don’t you start by paying more attention to the people near you?” Zaki said, putting the newspaper down and stretched out his arms and legs.
“Zaki, when I said some senses, I mean, bang his head to help him see the reality, not joining his forces!” Lia said.

Will Herdi find his dream woman and get married to her?
